Hello, my name is Heather Butler!
My husband, James, and I met on a blind date. We were engaged after 3 months and have been married for almost 31 years. We have 5 children between the ages of 20 and 29, and have two perfectly darling grandchildren.
In 2023, we moved to Cary, North Carolina, from Utah, to more fully enjoy the green trees, Southern hospitality, history, architecture, milder weather, and cozy small towns with fabulous city amenities nearby. We have not been disappointed!

Dishes, Dishes, Dishes!
With over 20 varieties of china patterns at the ready in my “party closet,” I simply can’t get enough of all things dinnerware: porcelain, silver, stoneware, linens. I’m in love!
Hosting, and Entertaining
“A party without cake is just a meeting” (Julia Child). Why have all those dishes and linens without sharing them with family and friends? One of my great joys is throwing parties and feeding a house full of guests. There’s always a reason to celebrate someone or something special.
All things food
I love collecting and developing recipes. Second only to coffee-table books about home interiors, I love collecting and perusing cookbooks. We all have to eat. Why not try to eat well? “First we eat, then we do everything else” (M.F.K. Fisher).

I was issued my first passport at age 8 when we moved to Germany with my family for the first time. Being big believers in seeing the beauty in every place we lived, my Dad made sure all 8 of us would see the palaces, towns, countryside, art, and cultures of Europe, all while traveling in our light-blue, 1980 Malibu Classic Stationwagon. Since then, I’ve traveled for work to China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, have lived in the Czech Republic, and have visited every State in the U.S. (minus Hawaii). It’s a BIG, beautiful world full of fascinating styles and cultures–plenty of design inspo!
Of all the places I love most to be, home is #1. If I can make a home more comfortable and calming, more efficient and safe, more inviting and beautiful, that’s what I want to create for as many people as possible. To aid this dream, I started Beautiful Living.
